Wolf Mother Vase

£295.00

A vase inspired by the bronze sculpture, Capitoline Wolf. Here, as related in Rome's founding myth, a she-wolf is shown suckling Romulus and Remus. On the reverse of the vase are objects and flora that held significance in relation to mother and womanhood in Ancient Rome (including cowrie shells- often sewn into clothes as protective amulets during pregnancy, an olive branch for Latona, and a moon for a young woman's lunula).

Hand built in stoneware, 23cm tall
